COVID-19 FAQs

What kinds of COVID-19 testing does Optimum care Urgent Care offers?

Whether you need immediate test results to travel to see high-risk family members, or to return to school, or to differentiate between COVID-19 symptoms and flu symptoms, we have options for you.

COVID-19 Virus Testing:

During your visit, Optimum Care provider will recommend one of the below test options after evaluating medical necessity, exposure risk, and the circumstances for which you are seeking testing.

PCR test:

Anterior nasal swab to determine if virus particles are present. This testing is for patients with or without COVID symptoms and is available every day at Optimum Care Urgent Care . This test is sent to an outside lab, and typically takes 3-4 days for results to be returned. The PCR test has a high-level of accuracy in detecting the virus, and is considered the “gold-standard” in COVID-19 virus testing. When proof of a negative COVID-19 test is required, most states, employers and schools require the PCR test.

Antigen test (rapid):

We do offer limited quantities of rapid COVID-19 testing at Optimum Care. This test can also be performed on patients with or without symptoms of COVID-19. Test results are returned within 15 minutes from the time the test is administered.

COVID-19 Antibody Testing:

Blood draw to determine if virus antibodies are present. This test is appropriate for anyone who does not currently have symptoms of COVID-19.

Will my insurance cover the testing?

We will be submitting all tests through insurance, however insurance coverage for COVID-19 Antigen (rapid) tests varies, and in many cases coverage for this test is based on medical necessity. If you are symptomatic (showing symptoms) and the Optimum Care Urgent Care provider evaluates you and determines it is medically necessary for the test, insurance will likely cover some or all of the visit and test fees. If you are asymptomatic (showing no symptoms) and a Optimum Care provider determines it is not medically necessary, (for example, you require a test for travel and are not sick) you will be required to pay for the visit and test fees, should insurance deny the claim. We do recommend you speak with your insurance carrier to best understand what is covered for COVID-19 testing.

What will the test cost if I do not have insurance?

  • For the SARs Antigen (Rapid) COVID-19 testing, the cost without insurance is $199
  • For the COVID-19 PCR test, the total cost is $199

We understand how frustrating it can be when the cost for testing is not transparent at the time of the visit, which is why we share these costs with you.

When can I expect the results of my COVID-19 test?

COVID-19 virus test results may normally take up to 2-3 business days to be returned to us from the lab. We are encouraging our patients to sign up for MyQuest, as the lab will have immediate access to test results when they are available.
